About Us

The High Legh Centre is owned and operated by the Independent Methodist Connexion of Churches who opened it as a retreat centre in 1996. Although it was used first of all by the churches in this group, it gradually became more widely known and is now used by Christians from various denominations.

It was born out of a vision to see this former chapel used to the glory of God in a new way – as a place where Christians from many churches could find peace, refreshment and new inspiration through times spent here either personally or in groups.

The practical running of the centre is done by a small team of volunteer workers who live locally. They are:

The High Legh Centre is linked to the Resource Centre of the Independent Methodist Churches at Wigan. From there, the Resource Centre Manager, Andrew Rigby, deals with enquiries and takes bookings.

A small Management Committee, including members of the local team, meets periodically to oversee the ongoing development of the centre. This committee in turn reports to the Administration Group of the Independent Methodist Connexion.

From time to time the Connexion has reviewed the facilities at the centre and has upgraded them both to meet the requirements of current legislation and to improve them for the users.
